“Lifted Veils”

The works shown and created for this show all have an element of honoring the past to move forward in love towards the future. We must learn from our past selves. We must learn from the lessons and the mistakes from our ancestors. We are all cycle breakers if we choose to be.

These works are meant to help you find grounding and healing in your own journey because at the end of the day, the actions you take now will determine what kind of ancestor you become in the future.

“Woven” SOLD

As a multi racial person, I used this piece to honor both my Indigenous and Black heritages by burning a Cherokee basket weave and African basket weave pattern into the wood.

The jaw bone symbolizes the voice I have for my ancestors on this timeline. My responsibility to heal myself and therefore my bloodline.

2022: 36” x 48” pyrography, acrylic and metal leafing on wood.

“I Don’t Owe You Shape or For” $800

The concept is me not wanting or needing to fit into whatever form people have taken it upon themselves to put me in, but I realized I have only been able to get to this point because I’ve surrounded myself with a certain level of protection. The sunflowers and the color black have always felt very protective

Between 1845 and 1849, J. Marion Sims would conduct experimental surgeries on 12 enslaved Black Women in his backyard hospital without the use of any pain management. He specifically chose Black bodies because “they cannot feel pain.”

Only by obtaining and learning from the knowledge of the past can we grow and become better in our future. That knowledge flows from the people who came before us. Will we learn from our history? Or are humans destined for insanity by making the same mistakes and expecting different results?

2022: 48” x 36” pyrography, acrylic and metal leafing on wood.

“Generations” SOLD

“The Weight of Our Hair” $3500

In both my Black and Indigenous cultures, our hair has played an important role in our history. It has been both coveted and weaponized against us. Being able to just exist with how our hair comes out of our head has carried a lot of weight and trauma. This is a reminder to embrace and love it no matter how you treat your crown.

2022: 48” x 36” pyrography, acrylic and metal leafing on wood.
