“With Warm Hands”
So often we seem to only celebrate those we care about after they are passed. We tend to “give people their flowers” long after they have left us.
This is especially true with artists. So many artists get celebrated after they have already left this earth.
A dear friend of mine’s grandmother has a saying “Give your flowers to warm hands.” This statement has helped fuel some of the images I’ve created for this show.
Textures and florals are the main focus of the works I created. With basket weaving being a huge part of my heritage, I played with those textures and explored the idea of presenting the flowers in different variations of “baskets.”
Getting to create work in a space of celebration has helped me to remember to not only those who have passed, but the people in my life who are here with me on this journey, as well as celebrating myself.
